For Yuzu - Switch Roms

The Legal Status of Yuzu in 2026

Switch emulation has seen major shifts following the high-profile legal battle between Nintendo and the developers of Yuzu in early 2024. While the original Yuzu project was shut down, many users still look for ways to play their Nintendo Switch library on PC or mobile.

  1. Requirements: A hackable Nintendo Switch (unpatched Erista model or a modded OLED/Lite) and an SD card.
  2. Dumping Tools: Use homebrew software like NXDumpTool (for cartridge dumping) or Lockpick_RCM (for extracting your console’s unique keys).
  3. The Process:
    1. Product Keys: These are cryptographic keys unique to your Switch console (prod.keys and title.keys). They decrypt the game files. Without them, Yuzu cannot read any ROM.
    2. Firmware: The Switch operating system files. Yuzu needs these to mimic the system menu, handle save data, and run system applets.
    3. The ROM (Game File): This comes in two primary formats:
      • Cause: Corrupt ROM or missing prod.keys.
      • Fix: Re-dump your keys from a Switch on firmware 17.0.0+. Use Lockpick_RCM.
