- Enable verbose logging:
- Temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall.
- Try to connect.
- If it works, add an exception rule for the SoftEther Client executable (usually located at
C:\Program Files\SoftEther VPN Client\vpnclient.exe).
The Fix:
Try connecting to a different server from the list. If you are using a private server, ping the IP address in your Command Prompt ( ping your.server.ip ) to see if it responds. 2. Disable Windows Firewall or Antivirus
- Press
Win + R, typemsconfig, and press Enter. - Go to the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services.
- Click Disable all.
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
- Disable all startup items.
- Restart your PC.
- Run SoftEther VPN Client. If Error Code 1 disappears, a third-party service was the cause.
- Re-enable services one by one to find the culprit. If it is your antivirus, add SoftEther to its exclusion list (free).
