Review — S-TEC 55X Installation Manual
4.3 GPSS (GPS Roll Steering)
- Dedicated Port Requirement: The System 55X requires a dedicated static port or a specific tee-fitting configuration. It is not recommended to simply "tee" into the aircraft's existing static line feeding the altimeter/airspeed indicator.
- Reasoning: The autopilot altitude sensor is highly sensitive. Pressure fluctuations caused by the airspeed indicator's airflow demands or instrument venturi effects can cause the autopilot to "hunt" (oscillate up and down).
- Manual Specification: The manual specifies a dedicated flush-mounted static port on the aft fuselage (often on the opposite side of the fuselage from the primary static port) to ensure stable pressure reference.
