Kitab Bayan Alif (often spelled Bayan Aliff ) is a classic Jawi manuscript deeply rooted in Southeast Asian Sufism (Tasawwuf). It is widely attributed to the renowned 16th-century Sufi poet and theologian Hamzah Fansuri

  1. The Point (Nuqtah): The hidden source of all energy. The book posits that the dot under the Ba or over the Ya exists only because of the hidden potential within the Alif.
  2. The Line (Khatt): The axis connecting heaven and earth. Just as the human spine connects the mind to the limbs, the Alif connects the divine command (Kun - "Be") to physical reality.
  3. The Sound (Sawt): Unlike the throat letters (Halqiyyah), the Alif requires no complex articulation. It is the open mouth, the breath of the Most Merciful (Nafas ar-Rahman).
