Kess V2 Protocol Not Found ^new^ May 2026
The Error: "Protocol Not Found"
Check Connections
: Verify that the Kess V2 is properly connected to the vehicle's OBD-II port. Ensure the connection is secure and that there are no wiring issues.
- Verify Battery Voltage: Connect a high-amp battery stabilizer. Voltage must be stable (13.5V - 14.5V). A dip during the handshake causes an instant protocol rejection.
- Check Wiring: If using the KESS harness, ensure the CAN-High and CAN-Low pins are correctly seated. A loose pin results in silence on the line.
- Use "Protocol Repair": If the error persists, save the
.pkgfile generated by the tool. You can often send this to your tool supplier to receive a custom patch file that unlocks that specific ECU variant. - Boot Mode: If OBD fails completely, the protocol may not be supported over OBD2. You may need to remove the ECU and read it in "Boot Mode" using the KESS jig (green board), which bypasses the OS and reads the memory directly via the processor pins.
- Use a multimeter to check continuity between KESS ground and ECU ground.
- Use a CAN/K-Line tester or scope to verify physical signals on CAN-H/CAN-L or K-Line during attempts.
- Enable software debug/logging (if available) and capture logs for patterns (timeouts, protocol errors).
