Additional Tips for Home Security
- F - Freeze & Listen: Don't turn on the lights. Sound is your radar. How many intruders? Where are they?
- L - Lock & Leverage: If you are upstairs, lock your bedroom door. Put a chair under the handle. DO NOT go downstairs to investigate. Owning "stuff" is not worth a gunfight.
- I - Inform: Dial 911 immediately. Do not whisper say, "Home invasion at 123 Main St. I am hiding in the closet." Leave the line open.
- P - Pretend to be empty: If the intruder tries your door and finds it locked, do not say "I have a gun." Say nothing. Make them think the house is empty or that the police are coming. Silence is terrifying to a criminal.
