Facegen To Vam -
In the world of 3D character creation, Virt-A-Mate (VaM) are often used together to bridge the gap between real-world photography and immersive simulation. The Workflow: From Photo to VaM
- Lighting: Use diffuse, even lighting. Avoid harsh shadows across the nose or under the chin.
- Expression: Neutral face. No smiles (smiles distort muscle geometry). Mouth slightly closed, eyes open.
- Resolution: Minimum 1024x1024. Ideally 4K for texture detail.
Skin Materials
To complete the look, you must apply the specific skin textures generated by FaceGen. Go to (under the Person Atom). facegen to vam
Apply Morph:
Open Daz Studio and load a base G2F or G8F character. Apply the FaceGen morph you just exported. In the world of 3D character creation, Virt-A-Mate
VAM cannot natively "wrap" a FaceGen mesh. An intermediary step is required. Lighting: Use diffuse, even lighting
- Load your photo: Open FaceGen, click "File" > "Load Photo." Drag the corners to fit the guide lines (eyes on the green line, mouth on the red line).
- Fit the Mesh: Click "Fit." FaceGen will calculate the geometry. Pro tip: Do this twice. The second pass usually picks up finer details.
- Adjust Age/Gender: Use the sliders to correct if the auto-detection got it wrong.
- Crucial Step – Symmetry Check: Go to "Sculpt" mode. Turn on symmetry. If your source photo had bad lighting, you may need to manually smooth out one cheek.
- Export Settings for VaM:
Exporting Morphs
: FaceGen creates a specific morph file. When importing this into VaM, expert users recommend setting the morph slider to 0.600 rather than 1.000, as the full value often appears distorted or "off" in the VaM engine. 2. Texture Refinement
Geometry Generation
: It creates a unique 3D head shape that mimics the person in the photo. Texture Mapping
Once exported from FaceGen, you need to manually move the files into your VaM installation folders.
