The SKIDROW release of the DLC made the expansion widely available to those who had not purchased the game, which had a dual effect. On one hand, it deprived the developers of potential revenue. On the other, it arguably broadened the player base significantly, introducing thousands of players to the game who might otherwise never have tried it. Many of these players eventually converted to legitimate owners to access the multiplayer mod "TruckersMP" or to receive automatic updates, which were difficult to maintain on cracked versions.
