Curviloft
is a specialized extension for SketchUp, developed by Fredo6 , that focuses on lofting and skinning to generate complex, organic surfaces from contours. It is widely considered one of the most powerful modeling tools for creating smooth geometry that SketchUp’s native toolset cannot easily produce. Core Functionality
- What it does: Extrudes a profile along a 3D curve path. Unlike SketchUp’s native Follow Me, Curviloft keeps the profile upright and correctly oriented (no twisting).
- Key advantage: Handles sharp corners and complex 3D paths without generating "pinched" or broken faces.
- Use case: Twisted handrails, piping, curved gutters, ribbon windows on curved facades.
1. Loft by Splines (Skinning)
- How it works: You have one profile (shape) and two or three rails (the edges that define the border).
- Use case: A curved bridge railing that changes height while bending around a corner.
- Full Version Feature: "Progressive scaling." You can make the extrusion start 100% in size and end 10% in size to create tapered, twisted forms.
